different kinds of IACES activities |
IACES
as an Association takes place while linking students all over Europe. For
maintaining the contacts between the students, presenting interesting and
fascinating projects and maintain some overall regulations, there are
different activities, that may take place.
Since Futuretalk 2003, the LC is seen as the most important part, that IACES
bases on. It must be kept strong and functioning by attracting new members
with local activities but mainly with participating an international
Activity. The kind of activities in the last time were:
Exchange
Mostly one LC invites students all around IACES to present the actual state
of civil engineering in its country our to present some specific project or
topic that takes place. It mostly takes about one week (7-8 days). The
number of participants is variating much. It can be 5 up to 30 or even more
students, depending on what the organizers can realize and number of members
who want participate.
Promotion-Activities
A "little more" than a local activity (which should take place quite often)
can be a short meeting of maybe two LCs wich are located quite close
together. That can take a weekend and may attract new students, who don't
want to participate a "big activity" directly.
Local Activites
Local activites shall be done by each LCs to keep its members identifying
with IACES as an association and its ideas. The kind of activities can
variate a lot, depending on what the region offers or the LC can organize or
realize. It can also be just fun-activities. A big point that is very
helpful are regular meetings (every 1,2,3,... weeks) to conclude the local
status, collect ideas and initiate events and activities.
Futuretalk
A long time IACES was a big organized association, that provided big
activities also only for administrative things. That system did not work
anymore in the end. To "rescue" the IACES ideas in 2003 the first Futuretalk
took place. It took 2 days to discussing the present state of IACES and to
decide, what shall happen in the future

The "old" activity-strucure, that is not how
it takes place in the present status is the following.

ACCESS:( Academic Congress of Civil
Engineering Students)
ACCESS is the most important congress for IACES. Next to policy matters
(GAR), special topics related to IACES and Engineering are discussed in
workshops; but there are also lectures and excursions to local worth-sight
projects.
No of participants: about 100.
Summer Courses:
The organization and outbringing are done by the hosting LC. They allow
students to present a thoroughly worked out topic of civil engineering to a
wide audience. They contain practical work, excursions and lectures from
academics, professional engineers and students. The topics extended beyond
the usual curriculum of a University. No. of participants: about 100 per
year.
IACES Newsletter:
The official communication organ of IACES. It contains all the information
about the Association and its activities. It also features articles on
engineering projects, tasks, environmental and economical subjects. The
Newsletter is printed by the CC.
Link Report Project:
An information project dealing with international civil engineering studies.
It collects information and presents facts on the various civil engineering
Faculties. Next to the addresses it contains detailed information about the
curricula, duration of the programs, examination and holiday periods,
possible specializations, and other useful data. The Link Report is
distributed to every Faculty of engineering across Europe. The Link Report
enables the student to find a suitable Faculty for his studies abroad.
Exchanges/Study-visits:
Exchanges take place betwwen various LCs and offer the opportunity to learn
about your host town/country by joining lectures, cultural and social events.
No. of participants: 5-30 per Exchange.
