General Board 2006/2007
The new General Board has been elected during the
ACCESS in Kopaonik in December 2006. As you might remember the Future Talk
in Madrid in 2003, we discussed the necessity of the offi cial structure for
the IACES network. The result was the so called new generation
characterizing the shape of IACES during the last years.
The most important part beside the network itself became the Exchanges
with everything that belong to them: lectures, technical visits, meeting
people and cultures, getting to know many motivated and interested
colleagues and companies from all over the world, having fun and making
friends.
Helping out in realizing as well as coordinating
those Exchanges is one of our tasks this year. And many more achievements we
want to carry on and develop. I.e. this reader you are holding in your hands
right now. Other projects are the cooperation with other (student)
organizations, enlarging and strengthening the network, working together
with as many students as possible on a high level.
We give our best for another successful IACES year!

- President

year
Why IACES?
I was convinced by the former president
of the LC Wuppertal to join my first IACES activity (Berlin by the way)
in the second month of my first year. Without knowing how deep the impact
of IACES would be in my student life later on, I enjoyed my first exchange
with getting to know civil engineering and architecture students from
all over Europe, visiting very interesting construction sites and discovering
Berlin. IACES is a red thread in my studies, even more: it is one of my
specializations.
Why
General Board?
1. The payback thought: During my
studies I benefitted a lot from IACES. And now the time has come to give
sth. back and contribute to the welfare and development of IACES.
2. The heritage thought: The IACES heritage and history is very significant.
A lot of students have given great efforts to create a dynamic student
association with a lot of activities and international relevance. Furthermore,
the aims of IACES are very honourable; therefore it is necessary to care
for our bequest.
3. The learning thought: By working in the board of IACES, one can learn
about international cooperation and one also learns to deal with the different
ways of approaching challenges in every culture.

Steffen Kisseler
- Vice-President
Local Committee Wuppertal, Germany
Bergische Universität
Wuppertal
Civil Engineering / Management, 4th year
Why IACES?
I got ?infected? during my first activity - Exchange 2003 in Madrid. I
never would have limited the radius of my studies ?just? to Wuppertal
(which nevertheless is a great place to be!). The IACES-package is the
best: travelling a lot, getting to know a lot of wonderful people, seeing
many different places, experiencing Civil Engineering how it works abroad,
learning, enjoying, having fun,...
Why
General Board?
Taking advantage from something means to give also something ?back?. My
main interest to engage myself was the website. To be in the general board
was a consequence of the last development of IACES. And of course I take
that task! It‘s good to get experience in work like that, and last
but not least it‘s great to work with those people in a team like
we are right now!

Fernando José
Ferreira Guedes - 2nd Vice-President
Local Committee Porto, Portugal
Universidade do Porto
Faculdade de Engenharia
Why
IACES?
I could say it in many ways but I think for me it is besides the chances
of travelling and knowing other cultures the personal growing that the
activities of our network promote. In our personal and professional path
we all must decide wheather to take the chance or play it safe. I encourage
everyone to take the risks, for nothing is gained without them. That was
the main reason why I join IACES and still is my biggest motivation.
Why
General Board?
I strongly believe that in order to enlarge our network we have to ask
ourselves what we can do to help and not what IACES can do for us. With
this in mind I decided to give my contribution to our association and
to share my personal experiences.

Why
IACES?
Meeting new friends, getting to know with other cultures, languages…
getting closer with the whole world and finding new ways of studying,
working and making projects. This and even more I find very interesting.
That’s why I join to IACES with whole my heart.
Why
General Board?
At first it wasn’t my own wish. My dear friends from IACES invited
me and I have generously accepted. I’m not sorry for that, actually
I’m glad I can help to the people who want to know more about IACES
and even join us. I’m happy to see IACES growing all over the world…

Vanja Marisavljevic
- Treasurer
LC Belgrade, Serbia & Montenegro
University of Belgrade
Faculty of Civil Engineering, 5th year
Why
IACES?
Because it provides a lot of opportunities such as traveling, getting
to know other cultures, languages, making frienships with a lot of people
all over the world...Besides all that you can gain experience how Civil
Engineering works abroad, that you will be able to use in your future
professional life.
Why
General Board?
IACES gave me a lot and I want so badly to do something for IACES.I have
the privilege to be in the general board and I think it‘s good to
get experience in work like that.

Why
IACES?
Traveling! Exploring the world! Meeting other people and get known to
other cultures! We are young and we are in the happy circumstances that
we have sooo many possibilities! Then why not grab them? And I can ensure
you, every IACES-activity is really worth it‘s time! And of course
you get a nice idea of the state of civil engineering projects and the
way of working in other countries!

IACES?
With IACES memership I‘ve got a chance to travel, I met a lot of
very interesting, good, enthusiastic people, seen lots of great architecture.but
most importantly i gained a lot of friends and new experiences that i

Why

We all have to do something for IACES, at least a little, as much as we
can... And I am glad that my friends from IACES trust me.
